5 Best Plant Based Protein Shakes
Protein shakes are a great meal replacement option if you're on a vegan diet. We have pulled together five of the best plant based protein shakes that we have tried and tested. Each is packed full of protein, taste delicious and they are really filling, which means that, if you're trying to cut down on your calorie intake these can help you feeling full for longer.
Each of our shakes involves the use of a blender. Our favourite is the Ninja Blender because it is well-priced and it's blades and speed ensure that ice is properly crushed and you're never left chewing small bits of fruit - which can often happen with cheaper blenders!
Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Shake
Ingredients
You will need:
- ¾ cup vegan milk (we use Oatly)
- 1 ½ tbsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- ½ tbsp cocoa powder
- 1 scoop chocolate plant based protein powder
- 1 cup ice cubes
Instructions
All you need to do is combine all of the ingredients in a blender and blitz them up until they’re all mixed together. I like to add the ice cubes after blending, but you can add them to the blender if you want to.
Cinnamon Roll Protein Shake
Ingredients
You will need:
- ¼ cup oats
- 1 cup vegan milk (we use Oatly)
- 1 scoop vegan vanilla protein powder
- 1 frozen banana
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup ice cubes
Instructions
Just like the last shake, all you have to do is blend everything together until smooth. You can also add more or less cinnamon, depending on your taste and add crushed nuts according to your taste.
Iced Coffee Protein Shake/Frapuccino
Ingredients
You will need:
- ¾ cup vegan milk (we use Oatly)
- 1 scoop vanilla vegan protein powder
- 2 shots espresso (around 60ml of coffee)
- 1 ½ cups ice
Instructions
Simply wait for the coffee to cool slightly and mix together all of the ingredients either in a blender or a shaker. Again, I like to add the ice afterwards, but if you add ice to the blender the shake will be thicker.
Blueberry Protein Shake Smoothie
Ingredients
You will need:
- 1 cup coconut water
- 1 scoop raspberry vegan protein powder
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- ¼ avocado
- 1 cup ice cubes
Instructions
Simply blend together all of the ingredients until mixed. The coconut water in this shake makes it great to drink post-workout, because coconut water is full of electrolytes, such as potassium, which you lose a ton of when you sweat – this can help prevent muscle cramps.
Raspberry and Coconut Protein Smoothie
Ingredients
- 1 scoop of Raspberry Vegan Complete Protein
- 250ml/1 cup coconut milk
- 2 tbsp frozen raspberries
- Large handful of ice
- Flaked coconut or desiccated coconut to serve
Instructions
Serve immediately with a sprinkling of coconut.
BONUS: Green Healthy Smoothie
Ingredients
You will need:
- ½ cup kale
- ½ cup spinach
- 1 cup water or dairy free milk (we use Oatly)
- 1 cup mixed berries
- ½ banana
- 2 tbsp oats
Instructions
Place all of the ingredients into a high-speed blender and process until smooth.
Serve immediately with a sprinkling of berries to taste.
This will make you look so healthy, and your body will be so grateful for all of the delicious fibre this smoothie contains. You can also add things like chia or flax seeds, a tbsp of nut butter, or ice, depending on how you feel.
